Is Anybody Out There?............

Since I don't know anyone who has had their thyroid removed, I thought I would try to find a celebrity or two who had undergone this procedure. So far I've discovered that Catherine Bell, who appeared as "Mac" on J.A.G. and legendary singer, Rod Stewart have both had thyroid cancer. In fact, Catherine Bell is the new spokesperson for the Thyroid Cancer Survivor's Association. For some reason, I found it very comforting to know these two individuals have had thyroid cancer and appear to be successfully going about their lives. I would not have wanted to have been the surgeon to operate on Rod - what pressure with the very real risk of damaging vocal cords during surgery. I have always loved Rod and have decided to purchase some of his music off Itunes to serve as inspiration during the recovery from my surgery. I'm feeling better already.

Hi "Elle". I stumbled upon your blog and might be able to offer some assistance. I had a nodule on one of my parathyroids and on my thyroid that was found during a routine health fair screening by way of too much calcium in my blood.

Let me tell you--I learned more than I ever cared to about things I had never known before.

Anyway, I can't write much now, and I haven't read your whole blog, but I WILL respond when I have more time. Any questions, feel free to ask.

Biopsy prior to surgery was benign, as was after. I still have about 1/2 of my thyroid, which is working correctly.

I was extremely nervous about having my throat slit open; but it wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting. Surgery was done in August of 2006.

WHERE ARE YOU ELLE??? I was so excited I could share some of my "vast" experiences with someone who needs to know (since there was no one to share with me), and I couldn't wait to hear from you. I'm waiting...........

I'm so new to blogging Glennda that I'm not even sure how I respond to you - can you read this?

I'm trying to get my blog posted more widely - something I can hopefully work on while I'm off recovering.

If I don't hear back from you via comment - I'll put something on my blog post to let you know I've read your comments - thanks so much for letting me know yours was benign, the surgery wasn't as bad as you thought and you are doing well - that really helps!

Yes, I can read your comments. I don't know much about blogs either, but you do know more than me because you have one!

I'm glad to see a comment from you. I was getting kind of worried...

Do you have any specific questions or is there anything in particular you'd like to know?

If not, I figured I would just tell you about my experience if you'd like. The internet connection here comes and goes so I'll just post a little at a time to make sure I don't loose it (like I just did--grrrrr).

"Talk" to you later.
